Statement of faith
As a follower of Jesus Christ and a lifelong student of His Word, I affirm these core beliefs that reflect my faith and guide my life and ministry. These convictions are grounded in Scripture and align with the doctrinal truths expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Scriptures
I believe the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction, having God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter. Scripture is the supreme and final authority for all Christian faith and practice.
(Psalm 19:7–10; 2 Timothy 3:15–17; 2 Peter 1:19–21)
God
I believe there is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being—the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. He exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each distinct yet co-equal and co-eternal.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5–6; Matthew 28:19; John 14:6–11)
God the Father
I believe God the Father reigns with providential care over His creation and the flow of human history according to His gracious purposes. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, and all-wise. He is Father to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
(Psalm 103:19; Matthew 6:9; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:3–6)
God the Son
I believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Fully God and fully man, He perfectly revealed and did the will of God. Through His sinless life, substitutionary death on the cross, and bodily resurrection, He made provision for the redemption of humanity. He ascended into heaven and will return in power and glory to judge the world and reign forever.
(John 1:1–18; Philippians 2:5–11; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Revelation 19:11–16)
God the Holy Spirit
I believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired holy men to write the Scriptures, convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and calls people to the Savior. At the moment of salvation, He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ, indwells, seals, and empowers them for Christian living and service.
(John 14:16–17, 26; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9–11; Ephesians 1:13–14)
Man
I believe man is the special creation of God, made in His image. Though created innocent, man fell through the temptation of Satan and the sin of disobedience. As a result, all humanity inherits a sinful nature and is under condemnation. Only the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable him to fulfill God’s purpose.
(Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12–19; Ephesians 2:1–10)
Salvation
I believe salvation involves the redemption of the whole person and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.
(John 3:16; Romans 10:9–10; Ephesians 2:8–9; Philippians 1:6)
The Church
I believe the church is the Body of Christ, consisting of all believers in every age. The local church is an autonomous congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and exercising the gifts and privileges invested in them by His Word.
(Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:41–47; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Ephesians 1:22–23)
The Ordinances of the Church
I believe Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior.
The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers memorialize the death of Christ and anticipate His return.
(Matthew 28:19–20; Romans 6:3–5; 1 Corinthians 11:23–29)
The Christian Life
I believe every believer is called to live in holiness and love, growing in grace through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. We are called to serve God, love others, share the gospel, and reflect the character of Christ in all things.
(Micah 6:8; John 13:34–35; Galatians 5:22–25; 1 Peter 1:15–16)
Last Things
I believe God, in His own time and way, will bring all things to their appropriate end. Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to the earth. The dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The redeemed will dwell forever with the Lord in Heaven; the unredeemed will face eternal separation from God in Hell.
(Matthew 24:30–31; John 5:28–29; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:11–15)
